As a final and fun activity to close the second quarter of this school year the children in all the 5 year old classes got to experience what it is to be a real cook. Alba and Oscar prepared all the ingredients and the children learnt about measures and cooking utensils. The all mixed the dough with both a hand whisker and an automatic one. They added the eggs, milk, flour, a couple of tablespoon of sugar, a teaspoon of salt and a little olive oil. We have to say that, even when they were very excited to be doing such a grown up thing as cooking, they were not convinced that the end result would be a tasty one. They cheered the pancakes as they started to cook on the grill and it really blew their minds when they started to see bubbles popping in them. That’s when they all started to scream “bubbles, bubbles!”, which was the agreed signal for the teachers to toss the pancakes and flip them in the air. The children were amazed at Oscar’s and Alba’s flipping technique and told us so. When it was time to put the chocolate-hazelnut spread and the different flavour jams, the children themselves served each other and enjoyed a sweet, nutritious and simple breakfast that they all promised to share with their parents to prepare on weekends.
